The assembled piece, "Halaf (To be passed on)", by artist Rina Bannerjee, uses slate, hair and kum/kum on the re-worked surface of the striated stone. Banerjee, whose installation pieces will be included in New York's Whitney Museum's Biannual 2000, is noted for her use of various found materials in her assemblages, in order to create tension between an understanding of Eastern and Western philosophy.
